The movie “The Last Starfighter” opens this weekend in the United States and Canada, but the StarWars.com community can expect to see an uptick in Star Wars activity in the nursing homes of Indiana and Indiana University.
A few nursing homes across the United Kingdom are also showing the movie, and the nursing home of the Royal Albert Hall in London will be showing it during its concerts on May 14 and May 15.
The movie will also be shown in England’s national theaters from June 3 to 6, as part of the film’s nationwide release.
The nursing home’s website is showing the film on the TVs of visitors as they enter the facility, and staff members will be dressed in costumes as the movie opens.
The U.K. nursing home where the movie will be shown has received a special request from Disney to show it at its facilities, said Elizabeth Koepp, a spokeswoman for the Royal United Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Disney has given a special dispensation to the nursing care system to show the movie at their facilities.
The Royal Albert hall has become a hot spot for fans of the “Star Wars” franchise.
Its doors are decorated with posters of iconic characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia.
The hall was one of the first nursing homes to be set up in the U.S. in the 1980s, and its current location, which is not a nursing facility, is not far from the Disney theme park in Anaheim, Calif.
“We have been contacted by Disney, and they have made a request to show The Last Jedi at our facility, ” Koepps said.
“We are hoping that the film will be in theaters there, and it will be a great way to bring fans and visitors together.”
The movie is directed by J.J. Abrams, and stars Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren and Oscar Isaac as Kylie.
The film will also star Anthony Daniels as General Leia Organa.
